Agri-food marketing elective for Masters students

A group of Masters students from the Marketing Department have attended a week-long elective on agri-food marketing at Universidad Pablo de Olavide in Seville.

They were accompanied by Professor Alan Wilson and Carol Christie. The students received lectures on the agri-food sector in Spain as well as on the marketing and exporting of agri-food products.  They also visited an olive oil producer to see how pure virgin olive oil is made, marketed and exported.

A similar visit was made to Ines Rosales who make sweet olive oil tortas for the Spanish and international markets. The tortas made by Ines Rosales, similar to biscuits, sweet flatbreads or wafers, have gone from a home-made pastry eaten in Seville at Easter to sales of about 130 million units a year across five continents.

The week ended with the students presenting their plans to representatives of Universidad Pablo de Olavide and Strathclyde University on approaches to building UK market share for Spanish agri-food products.
