Strathclyde Business School academic named 'Best Overall Teacher' in teaching awards

Strathclyde Business School academic Hilary Kane from the Department of Strategy & Organisation has been named Best Overall Teacher – the top award in the student-run Strathclyde Teaching Excellence Awards 2016. This award reflects students’ appreciation for the care and effort she takes in her teaching.

Michael Harker of the Department of Marketing was named Best in Faculty while teaching staff across the Business School were nominated for the USSA awards which took place on May 18. The awards, now in their 7th year, provide students with the opportunity to show their appreciation for the teachers who have gone above and beyond expectations in delivering learning and teaching.

Hilary said, “I’m really honoured to be named Best Overall Teacher. I’m delighted to be nominated and even more delighted to get this award. I’d like to thank all the students who  took the time to nominate me.”

Teaching staff could be nominated in three categories – most supportive, most innovative and most enthusiastic teacher. Most supportive is for staff who go above and beyond in providing pastoral support their students; most innovative is for lecturers who use innovative teaching methods to enhance the teaching of their subject; and most enthusiastic is for teaching staff who show passion for their subject which inspires students to interact and engage more.

All those nominated were considered for the ‘Teacher of the Faculty’ and ‘Best Overall’ awards. The awards foster the Strathclyde sense of community pride and raise the profile of teaching amongst staff and students. The awards ceremony allows students to show they are truly appreciative of staff who go the extra mile.
