Student paper success in Undergraduate Awards

Strathclyde Business School undergraduate student Tessa Vullinghs has been named a Highly Commended Entrant in The Undergraduate Awards.

Her paper performed in the top 10% of the 2016 programme, and Tessa, who is about to enter her fourth year at Strathclyde, has made the shortlist as one of the 25 Winners.

As a Highly Commended Entrant in The Undergraduate Awards, Tessa has been identified as an outstanding academic at the international level. This year, the Awards received 5,514 submissions from students in 243 universities across 40 countries.

Tessa’s paper, entitled "The Future of Management Practice", made it to the top 10% of all submissions in the Business category, after being assessed by a panel of academics from universities around the world. She wrote the paper as part of the coursework for her ‘Contemporary Trends in Management Practice’ class. The assignment challenges them to weave together current trends like big data, changes in demographics, the obsession with metrics and 'the social' to look beyond current management techniques to construct a case for a new imagined management practice.

Currently finishing a summer internship at RBS, Tessa is studying Business Management with Hospitality and Tourism Management and will be doing joint Honours in these subjects in September. She said, “’Contemporary Trends in Management Practice’ was a class that really challenged me and my peers, and for that reason I was really pushed to write my piece of work ‘The Future of Management Practice’.

“The overall challenge of weaving together current trends in order to come up with a new, innovative and imagined management practice was something that became increasingly interesting to me as the university weeks went on.”
