Saltire students get the most out of internships

The 25 Strathclyde Business School undergraduate students who took part in Saltire internships both in the UK and internationally have come to the end of their summer internships and their thoughts are heading towards their final year at Strathclyde.

Nicole O’Rafferty spent the summer in Houston, Texas, working with Vepica, a multinational company with more than 40 years of experience in engineering, procurement, construction and management projects. Nicole was put in charge of a completely new marketing strategy for Vepica,

Nicole blogged about her experience a few weeks ago on the SBS blog. Of her internship, she said, “I am lucky enough to be putting all the marketing theories I have learned at University in to real-life marketing situations. For example, I have already worked on a full competitor, client and supplier review report for Vepica across four locations, as well as helping with designing corporate graphics and videos. This has helped me further advance my market research and analytical skills, and learn how to form professional reports using graphical/pictorial information as well as quantitative data.”

Another Saltire business school intern was Scott Grant, whose internship was with Indie Semiconductor in California, USA. Scott also blogged about this internship. He said, “The most encouraging part of my internship at Indie is that because it is such a small company, it doesn’t take long to be considered an important cog in the big machine, which means the learning opportunities are presented in abundance. Sometimes perhaps too many for one day...but that’s all part of the fun and games that is being an intern!”
