Babcock and Weir personnel graduated in November from their respective bespoke MBA programmes. The programmes were created by Strathclyde Business School in consultation with the two companies to address their specific business needs.
The Babcock cohort was the first graduating group of the Babcock MBA which was launched at a special event in London in June 2013. Participants were selected from across all divisions of Babcock International - Defence and Security, Marine and Technology, Support Services and International divisions - and attended from the UK, Germany and South Africa.
Archie Bethel, chief executive of the Babcock International Group, was part of the academic procession at the graduation ceremony in his role as co-opted Member of Court. Craig Smith, Talent Development manager, Neal Misell, MD, Air, Defence and Security Division, and Roger O'Callaghan, CEO Africa, also represented Babcock at the graduation ceremony.
The Dean's Commendation Prize for the final project went to Michelle De Beer for her project on developing sustainable competitive advantage.
The Weir Group was also the first to graduate from the Weir MBA. It began in 2014, although the group had all previously completed the Weir Business Management programme which meant they could complete just two additional years to gain their MBA award.
This was another diverse group, with students from the UK, Europe, South America, South Africa, USA, UAE, South East Asia and Australia.
Pauline Lafferty, Group HR Director and Jim McHarg, Group Head of Learning and HR Business Partner, represented Weir Group at the graduation.
The Dean's Commendation Prize for the final project went to Ian Tough, Jamie Cummings and Rob Fairclough for their group project on disruptive technology practices in the heavy industrial sector.
