Grant award for 'futures' research

Professor George Wright, Department of Strategy & Organisation, has been awarded a grant from the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Agency (IARPA) which is part of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence of the USA.

The overall research project will be funded to the value of about £15 million and Professor Wright's partner institutions include Monash University in Melbourne, University College London, and Birkbeck.

Research income to Strathclyde will be approximately £2.6 million over three phases which altogether will last four-and-a-half years. The focus of the research is on anticipating the future and the project is entitled "Bayesian Argumentation via Delphi" (BARD).

Professor Wright will be able to hire four researchers and fund a PhD studentship at Strathclyde. The Strathclyde component's focus will be on utilization of the Delphi technique for aggregating individual opinions into a group judgment.
