Funding approved for Leadership project

Professor Barbara Simpson has won funding from the Scottish Universities Insight Institute for a Knowledge Exchange project called 'The Leadership Studio'. The project will work with Scottish Public Sector Leaders to help them develop their collective capacities for tackling problems and improve leadership practice.

The project will be informed by a group of international experts who will visit Strathclyde next month.

It will draw together expertise from New York University, University of Montreal, Victoria University of Wellington, Glasgow School of Art, and Strathclyde, as well as practitioner experience from across the UK and New Zealand.

The public sector leaders are drawn from the Scottish Leaders Forum, membership of which includes every CEO in the Scottish public service.

A two day workshop on March 15 and 16 will kick off the project and will take place at Glasgow School of Art's new Creative Campus in Forres. Public service leaders from the Highlands & Islands will attend the workshop, briefing the international experts on the Scottish context for public service and the types of social problems that are encountered in Scotland.

The Leadership Studio will then work directly with a group of public service leaders as they tackle a problem that demands cross-organisational collaboration. There will be three workshops in April, July and October to facilitate the work of this group's collaborative leadership practice.
