Marketing professor-edited book published

"From Classroom to Boardroom" edited by Professor Alan Wilson of the Marketing Department was published in January. The book is a collection of inspirational studies from hospitality's emerging leaders and is created from summaries of the dissertations written by those who attended the two year Executive Masters course on the Hospitality and Tourism programme at Strathclyde Business School.

The book includes over 20 thought provoking studies utilising academic thinking to provide ideas and solutions to some of the main challenges faced by the hospitality industry today. Produced by Strathclyde Business School and EP Business in Hospitality, a proportion of the book sales go to the Hospitality Industry Trust Scotland Charity.

Visiting professor role at University of Sydney

Accounting and Finance Professor Christine Cooper took on a visiting professor role at the University of Sydney during January and February, engaging in global research on prisons.

A paper co-written by Professor Cooper and Daniela Senkl  - "An(other) truth: a feminist perspective on KPMG's true value" - published in Sustainability Accounting, Management and Policy Journal won its outstanding paper award.

Risk Consortium workshop

The Risk Consortium held its 21st workshop on January 19. The workshop, attended by representatives from Scottish Power, Doosan Babcock, MOD, Scottish Water, dstl and RSSB, covered structured expert judgement.

The workshop was led by Dr Matthew Revie, Professor Lesley Walls, Professor John Quigley, Professor Tim Bedford, Emma Comrie and Abby Colson, all of the Management Science department.

Successful British Academy grant

A British Academy Newton Mobility Grant of £9450 has been awarded jointly to Dr Aliakbar Jafari of the Department of Marketing and Professor Ozlem Sandikci of Istanbul Sehir University in Turkey to strengthen their collaborative research and global engagement programme.

HRM professor attends inaugural colloquium at Paris-Saclay university

On January 27 Professor Paul Stewart, Department of Human Resource Management, who is one of eight leading international researchers currently holding a Charles D'Alembert visiting research Chair at Paris-Saclay until the end of June, attended the inaugural colloquium at Paris-Saclay's Maison des Hommes.

Paris-Saclay is a new university formed at the end of 2014 in Isle de France to the south of Paris comprising 21 Higher Education institutions including 10 grande ecoles. The new university provides Higher Education to 60,000 students and aims to be one of the top ten international universities in research.

Marketing academic interviewed by BBC Radio

Professor Alan Wilson of the Department of Marketing was interviewed on the BBC Radio Scotland John Beattie Show on February 15. The topic was the Management of Customer Complaints and follows the publication of the fourth annual Consumer Action Monitor by the Ombudsman Service.

CeFRI and EEE gain funding to investigate financial blockchain

The Centre for Financial Regulation and Innovation (CeFRI) has secured £25,000 'AFRC Route to Impact Funding' jointly with Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) to investigate applications of financial blockchain and distributed ledger technology.
