Strathclyde Business School events during Engage week

SBS has organised a number of events for the latest Engage with Strathclyde week. Now in its sixth year, the university will host more than 50 events from May 2-5, showcasing research and innovation from across the University's four faculties.

The week-long series of events, provides opportunities for delegates from public, private and voluntary organisations to engage with the University, helping to identify shared priorities and build relationships that could lead to future collaborations.

With University-wide events kicking off on May 2, the Business School events will begin on Wednesday, May 3 with a Glasgow Powerhouse event. Our Powerhouse series of events examines a key area of our city's economy where delegates can hear from a panel of experts on the city's current status and future opportunities. This event will focus on the Higher and Further Education sector with Sara Carter, Associate Principal (Learning and Teaching) and Professor of Entrepreneurship from the University of Strathclyde discussing the importance of widening access, and Gwyneth Scholefield, Director, People and Organisation, PwC addressing the future workforce and the role that academia plays in shaping upcoming talent.

The focus then turns to family business, an area to which the University and indeed the Business School is firmly committed. SBS is a UK leader in family business research and education and has established the UK's largest family business research team based at the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship. In this special event for family businesses in partnership with Family Business United Scotland we will draw upon this research and share practical ways of capitalising on the natural advantage that family business can possess. This event features guest speaker Gerry Kennedy, Managing Director of award winning multi-generation family business Campbell & Kennedy.

Strathclyde is the leading business school in Scotland for executive education and we have two taster sessions running throughout the afternoon on the May 3 addressing Authentic Leadership and Change Management.

The May 3 afternoon will also feature a Risk Consortium workshop and an event highlighting key findings from the HR Voluntary Sector Forum Benchmarking Survey 2016.

Delegates will then have the chance to attend an interactive talk providing an overview of current world economy and asset pricing showcasing our very own Bloomberg Laboratory using live data feeds from major financial markets.

Thursday May 4 sees two full day events running at the Business School. The first will bring together stakeholders from the craft beer industry across Europe to focus on developing collaborative action plans to address challenges identified by prior research and engagement with the industry.

second full day workshop is based on a design SPRINT, which is a method to solve and test identified problems based upon design thinking principles. The workshop will explore a specific civic problem experienced by Glasgow City Council and The City of Edinburgh Council.

SBS events will culminate on the morning of Friday May 4 with the Fraser of Allander Institute providing a forecast for Scotland's economy 2017.
