Economics conference focuses on Population Economics

The 31st Annual Conference of the European Society for Population Economics (ESPE) took place from June 14-17 at Strathclyde Business School (SBS).

The Conference aimed to facilitate the exchange of research ideas and results across a range of fields, including the economics of the household, labour economics, public economics, demography, and health economics.

Michèle Belot (University of Edinburgh) served as the programme chair and Economics professor Robert E. Wright (University of Strathclyde) as the local organiser. The keynote speakers were Janet Currie (Princeton University) and Wilbert van der Klaauw (Federal Reserve Bank of New York) while the presidential address was given by Marco Francesconi (University of Essex).

Wilbert van der Klaauw spoke on "Rising U.S. Student Debt and Its Socioeconomic Implications" and Janet Currie spoke on "Inequality in Mortality: A geographic Approach". Marco Francesconi's address as titled "Gender Matters Among University Graduates". The Conference Dinner took place at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
