Over 1000 academics and research students from around the world descended on Strathclyde for the 17th EURAM conference which was hosted by Strathclyde Business School from June 21-24.
The European Academy of Management (EURAM) is a professional community of engaged management scholars and reflective practitioners- and aims to enhance the quality of research, improve its relevance for responsible and effective practice, and contribute to the
social and political discourse on management.
Professor Harry Sminia, Department of Strategy & Organisation, was chair of the conference, with co-chair Dr Kerem Akurtunali. The conference theme was 'Making Knowledge Work' and delegates attended from all across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, USA, South America, China and Japan.
Panellists Mats Alvesson, Stewart Clegg, and Anne Tsui discussed 'The Future of Management Education in Europe' with the EURAM community at the first panel session on the Wednesday afternoon (June 21).
For the second panel, scheduled for the Friday afternoon (June 23), the debate was "The Changing European Political Landscape" with panellists Martine Durand, Markku Markkula, John Curtice and Richard Higgott.
Strathclyde's own John Curtice, Professor of Politics, is well known for his research into voter behaviour at elections, and the premier public commentator on the Scottish and Euro issues in Scotland, and has most recently attracted much publicity discussing the polls at the UK General Election.
Participants enjoyed a welcome reception at Glasgow City Chambers on June 20 and a celebratory end to the conference took place at Kelvingrove Museum on Friday, June 23.
The main conference was preceded by the Doctoral Colloquium, which ran June 19-20 with Professor Peter McKiernan leading the two day meeting of doctoral students.
