Indian management students enjoy Scottish experience

Students from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C) enjoyed a two-week trip to Scotland during the summer as part of a new exchange programme with Strathclyde Business School.

The University of Strathclyde has partnered with IIM-C, the only triple-accredited business school in India, to host students on its Post Graduate Programme for Executives (PGPEX).

The one-year residential programme is designed for students with more than five years of professional experience and includes an international immersion module. The programme's other international partners are Forster Business School at the University of Washington in Seattle and the University of Mannheim in Germany.

The group of 20 students who visited Strathclyde from July 31 to August 11 gained international business perspective and insight through a series of presentations, networking opportunities and visits to some of the University's industry and business partners.

The students visited Strathclyde Business School as well as Babcock International Group, Rosyth Business Park, Scottish Power, Ben Cruachan Power Station, Royal Bank of Scotland and Clydesdale Bank.

The relaxation and cultural aspects of the visit included trips to Edinburgh, Loch Lomond, Glengoyne whisky distillery and Stirling Castle.

Professor Phil Taylor, of the Department of Human Resource Management, said, "This new partnership with IIM-Calcutta provides an excellent opportunity for some of the best business graduates in India to gain valuable international experience and insight.

"We were delighted to host our first group of students from this prestigious institute and have had a great time introducing them to business partners and showing them around Scotland."

Amit Kumar, one of the students on the programme, said, "This visit has been very complementary to what we've been learning at IIM-Calcutta. The transition from Kolkata to Glasgow has been seamless. We had a very pleasant stay in Glasgow and will cherish our visit for a long time to come."

Another group of students from the PGPEX programme will visit Strathclyde in 2018.
