Professor David Hillier, Associate Principal and Executive Dean of Strathclyde Business School, has been honoured at an awards ceremony celebrating the achievements of people in Glasgow.
Professor Hillier was the winner in the Outstanding Contribution by a Business Leader category of the Inspiring City Awards.
He received the accolade for his leadership of the award-winning Business School. In the past year, the Faculty was named Business School of the Year in the 2016 Times Higher Awards and was the subject of a £23 million refurbishment.
The Business School has also enhanced its reputation for research - including the Fraser of Allander Institute Economic Commentary and the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor - and has continued to refine its teaching.
Professor Hillier said, "I have been proud to lead Strathclyde Business School through a time of great success which has seen us earn recognition nationally, internationally and now locally, in the Inspiring City Awards.
"In our research, we offer incisive economic analysis to inform policy and to help business and industry make the most of the opportunities open to them. In our teaching, including our internationally-renowned MBA, we produce a high calibre of graduates with the skills and acumen needed to succeed in business. And we play a major role in Strathclyde's culture of entrepreneurship, which nurtures many of the innovative and successful new businesses a thriving economy requires.
"I am delighted to have been honoured with this award and offer my thanks to the colleagues and students who helped to make it possible."
The Inspiring City award is the second personal honour for Professor Hillier this year, after he was named Public Sector Director of the Year at the Institute of Directors Awards earlier in 2017.
There was also success in the Inspiring City Awards for the MCR Pathways programme, in which Strathclyde is a partner. The venture, which provides mentors to pupils who have experience of the care system, received the People Make Glasgow Award and is one of many initiatives Strathclyde pursues for widening participation in higher education.
In addition, a Lifetime Achievement award was made to comedian Sir Billy Connolly, who received an honorary degree from Strathclyde in June of this year.
Strathclyders have now been winners in the Inspiring City Awards for five consecutive years.
The Inspiring City Awards are presented by the People Make Glasgow Brand, in conjunction with the Herald and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce.
