The Chartered Management Institute is partnering with Strathclyde in an agreement which will benefit the full-time MBA cohort.
Initially, full time MBA students will benefit from this partnership which it is hoped will be extended out to all MBA students in the near future.
In what is a first for a Scottish MBA programme, Strathclyde MBA students will benefit from gaining a Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership while on the MBA, and the prestigious Chartered Manager status after completing their MBA.
Executive Director of Post Experience Programmes Alan McIntyre, MBA Operations Manager Findlay Black and Higher Education Relationship Manager of CMI Helen Watts met on February 7 to discuss the link up and promote the initiative to the MBA students.
Findlay Black said, "A CMI accreditation means our MBA students will graduate with their degree and a professional qualification. Students can tap into a range of resources and activities to support their studies and, on graduating, gain Chartered Manager status. There is no extra study involved for the students but they are gaining something which will make them more attractive to employers."
CMI's resource portal will allow students to access 10,000 world-wide company profile reports, access to around 3,000 publications, subject related videos and podcasts, and CMI research.
The organisation's career development centre will also benefit students, providing personal development resources, a CV service, interview simulator, career development advice and it will advertise management job vacancies.
Alan McIntyre added, "We're delighted to be offering this to our students. It is a pilot programme for our full time MBA students and after analysis of outcomes we may roll it out further in the near future. We hope our students make the most of this valuable addition to our offering."
Helen Watts, Relationship Manager for CMI commented, "We are delighted to have developed this partnership with Strathclyde Business School so they can offer their MBA with our dual accreditation also embedded with Chartered Manager status for their students. This is the first University in Scotland that offers MBA students the opportunity to achieve Chartered status, the highest accolade in the management and leadership profession. It also allows their students to increase their employability as our newly released 21st Century Leaders research shows 66% of employers say students should graduate with professional qualifications."
