Global Exchange Management students take part in Exchange Programme

Students on the Global Energy Management Programme took part in the annual Paris exchange this month. Strathclyde Business School and Dauphine Université, Paris, joined forces to bring future leading energy market professionals together by forming the Energy Master Exchange Programme (EMEP) Workshop.

Students were hosted by Université Paris-Dauphine and first visited the OECD headquarters where they met their French counterparts.

The next day the students visited Schneider Electric HQ where they showcased technological innovations and demonstrated how they already implement them globally within the sphere of improved urban sustainability through digital acceleration as well as energy efficiency.

A trip to RTE, the French transmission system operator, followed on the third day of their trip, where the students visited their technology innovation demonstration centre, where researchers try to create solutions for physical and digital challenges from an electricity and energy perspective that emerge from the renewables-driven energy system.

Global Energy Management student Emil Rapp said, "Overall, the three field visits gave us very valuable and relevant input to our SBS studies which allowed us to extend existing knowledge, fill gaps as well as test the knowledge we gained at the SBS to enhance the depth and quality of conversations we had with the company and industry representatives.

"Altogether, it is an experience worth putting effort into and this is a unique opportunity to enrich the student experience and thus make our time at Strathclyde truly unforgettable. The trip to Paris was great overall and enhanced our intercultural and energy-related experience."

The return trip to Glasgow focussed on Scotland's Tidal & Wave Energy and included a Civic Reception held in the City Chambers, a one day conference in SBS with guest speakers Dr Matt Hannon, Dr Kate Johannesen and Mr Richard Bellingham, ending with a visit to Flowave Ocean Energy Facility in Edinburgh.

The GEM students also enjoyed the final Global Energy Forum of the year with guest speaker, Neal Rafferty, Head of Energy, Utilities, Markets and Network Policy, Scottish Government.
