SBS Dubai team reaches national finals of world's largest strategy and management competition

Strathclyde Business School Dubai attended the gala award ceremony of the Global Management Challenge, UAE edition, to celebrate Strathclyde MBA team 'Hypatia' reaching the national finals.

The Global Management Challenge is the world's largest strategy and management competition. It is based on a simulation that mirrors a typical manufacturing company, and the original software was developed by the University of Strathclyde. Over 500,000 university students and young professionals have participated in the competition since its launch in 1980, and this year 36 countries are taking part.

The UAE edition of the Global Management Challenge ran from January to March and consisted of three elimination rounds. A total of 223 local corporate and student teams entered this year and team Hypatia came top of their groups in Rounds 1 and 2. They then joined seven other teams to compete in the UAE final on April 8. Playing against more experienced teams who had participated in previous years of the competition, team Hypatia were delighted to come 5thoverall, a significant achievement in view of the fact that all four team members are also juggling full time jobs and their MBA studies.

Team members Fadi Bayoud, Faiz Abdullah, Rajesh Raju and Shareed Sait are all doing their Executive MBA at Strathclyde Business School's international centre in Dubai. Despite the challenges of fitting in team meetings with their busy schedule, the team had a very positive experience of the competition, saying, "The global management challenge is the ultimate international platform for MBA students to demonstrate their business competence in a realistic simulation. For us, the experience has expanded our perspectives on the inter-relatedness and inter-connectedness of change in the business environment from narrow to multidimensional."

The four students are now planning to inspire and mentor more Strathclyde teams in next year's competition, and with their support, Strathclyde Dubai looks forward to reaching the GMC International Final in 2019!
