Professor David Boje, Regents Professor at New Mexico State University, was invited to the Department of Human Resource Management as the guest of Professor Barbara Simpson to spend 10 days at Strathclyde Business School.
He engaged with staff and students from SBS and HASS as well as visitors from Edinburgh University who came to learn from his experience with storytelling research.
He is best known for his work on organisational storytelling, which can be traced back to his seminal paper on this subject published in Administrative Science Quarterly in 1991. He founded the journal Tamara: Journal for Critical Organization Inquiry and remained as Editor for its first 10 years. He also served for 14 years as the Editor of the Journal of Organisational Change Management. In addition, he has served as Chair of the Academy of Management's Research Methods Division, was co-founder and Chair of the Standing Conference for Management and Organization Inquiry for its entire 25 year lifespan, and he convenes the annual Quantum Storytelling Conference, which is now in its 8thyear.
As part of his activities while at Strathclyde, Professor Boje led a public seminar on April 17 entitled "Globalisation and the End of the World". He also delivered a full-day workshop for doctoral students and ECRs on the topic "Advancing storytelling as an approach to research".
Professor Simpson said, "The feedback was enormously positive with most participants affirming that they had gained significant insights into their own research practice."
Professor Boje has a long and distinguished career in scholarship having published at least 22 books - there are still more in the pipeline - and over 140 refereed journal articles.
