New department strengthens research and teaching aims

Strathclyde Business School has created a new department, bringing together the Department of Human Resource Management with colleagues from the Department of Strategy and Organisation who work in the areas of Organisational Studies and Hospitality and Tourism to strengthen the inter-departmental research and teaching interests within the Business School.

The new department will now be known as the Department of Work, Employment and Organisation which Head of Department, Professor Tom Baum, believes better demonstrates the work the new department will engage in.

Professor Baum said, “With colleagues moving together in this way, we see this as an opportunity to bring people together physically and academically, building stronger research work across the department and the wider faculty and university. As a department, we will encompass distinct strands of research but these strands are intertwined and inter-related in terms of teaching and research and we are looking forward to capitalising on our close working relationship further.

“Together with the traditional work and employment side of HRM, we have the organisation studies side which brings together occupational psychologists, organisational behaviour experts and people interested in the wider context of business organisations and their structure – we look forward to some interesting collaborative work!”

The new department is being launched during what is the 70th anniversary year of our partner CIPD and the department is planning a series of events to mark the occasion in the months ahead, with further details to be announced in due course.
