Teaching Excellence Awards 2019

Students recognised Strathclyde Business School staff at the latest Teaching Excellence Awards (TEAs) which took place on May 10.

The 10th annual TEAs took place at Strath Union and saw the highest ever number of nominations, with over 900 submissions from students showing their support towards Strathclyde's teaching staff.

Teaching staff are nominated in three main categories: Most Supportive Teacher, Most Innovative Teacher and Most Enthuiastic. Nominations were also sent in recognising the University's PhD students, who also tutor on campus, and the Non-Teaching Support Staff such as lab technicians and department administrators who play an important part in students' lives.

Professor Phil Taylor of the Department of Work, Employment and Organisation was on the shortlist for Best Overall Teacher but lost out to Derek Hill of Architecture on the night.

In the Most Innovative Teacher category, two SBS academics made it onto the shortlist, namely Konstantinos Tomazos of Work, Employment and Organisation and Markus Gehrsitz of Economics.

Euan Beveridge of the Work, Employment and Organisation Department was winner in the "Best student who tutors" category, while Sep Fardghassemi of the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship made it onto the shortlist.

In the Best Non-Teaching Support category Barbara Baillie, postgraduate administrator in the Department of Accounting and Finance and Margaret English, MBA Administrator, were shortlisted.

The TEA awards also include a Best in Faculty category and for Business the winner was Thomas McAlinden of the Department of Marketing, while Claudine Grisard and Andrew Marshall of the Accounting and Finance Department, and Tom Bourkel and Colin Lindsay of the Department of Work, Employment and Organisation were on the shortlist.

Providing students with the opportunity to celebrate Strathclyde's teaching force, the awards show how staff have gone the extra mile in delivering learning and teaching across the University.
