A paper by Grant Allan, David Comerford, Kevin Connolly, Peter McGregor and Andrew Ross (Fraser of Allander Institute and Department of Economics) was recently published in Energy. The paper, titled, “The economic and environmental impacts of UK offshore wind development: the importance of local content” looks at the economic and emissions impacts of the likely future development of the UK’s offshore wind sector. Using scenarios for capacity projections and the degree of local content, the paper finds that offshore wind development does generate a policy “double dividend” in simultaneously delivering improvements in economic activity and substantial reductions in cumulative emissions.
A paper by Kevin Connolly, Grant Allan and Stuart McIntyre (Fraser of Allander Institute and Department of Economics) was recently published in Economic Systems Research. The paper, titled, “Developing an electricity satellite account (ELSA): an application to Scotland, UK” proposes an approach through which the linkages between elements with electricity generation and the rest of the economy can be understood in better detail. This framework improves the understanding of the economic contribution and role of the electricity sector, which is critical for climate, energy and economic policy channelled through this sector.
