Grant award and virtual seminars for WEO academic

Dr Brian Garvey, Department of Work, Employment and Organisation, was awarded a £10,000 GCRF Covid-19 response grant for an interventionist project in the Amazon region with Federal University of Para, Brazil and community associations.

Along with Jessica Enara Vian of WEO, Brian co-hosted a virtual event, “COVID-19 and the Amazon: community threats and resistance to pandemic and corporate plunder” with guest speakers from Brazil on May 13. Brian co-wrote a related article in The Conversation with Mauricio Torres from the Federal University of Para. It can be found here. Brian also represented Strathclyde at the international seminar, "Global effects of Covid -19 health challenges" with representatives from Colombia, Argentina, Mexico and Brazil in May.

Francis Portes Virginio and Brian Garvey (WEO) hosted the international webinar, "Action plan for support of migrants in the context of Covid-19 and Brazil" with 11 international partners on June 25.  Their work has been accepted for the Special Issue of Globalizations on "Unfreedom in Labour Relations"
