New marketing book

Alan Wilson, Emeritus Professor in the Department of Marketing has recently published the Fourth European edition of his bestselling textbook: Services Marketing: Integrating Customer Focus Across the Firm. His co-authors are Valarie Zeithaml (University of North Carolina), Mary Jo Bitner (University of Arizona) and Dwayne Gremler (Bowling Green State University).

Paper award for Hunter Centre doctoral researcher

Aviel Cogan of the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship has won the G. Dale Meyer Best Paper Award for the most relevant research in social entrepreneurship at the Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference (BCERC) for her paper entitled “True Colors: Pursuing Social Entrepreneurship as Verifying Identity Work”. It will also be published in Frontiers of Entrepreneurship Research, the BCERC proceedings which features only the top 40 papers (out of 515 submissions).

Keynote address on Preparing for the Future

Professor George Wright gave a keynote address on foresight at the Finnish Strategic Research Council conference on "Preparing for the Future", October 7-8. He also gave a talk on scenarios and decision making for "The Guardian MBA Masterclasses" on October 10/11.

According to an evaluation by Tiberius et al ("Scenarios in business and management: the current stock and research opportunities", Journal of Business Research, 2020, vol 121, p235-242), George Wright is the most productive author in the world in the topic area of scenarios and also the world's most cited - in terms of average citations per year to his scenario-focused journal publications.

George Avlonitis scholarships

A number of students who applied to do the Strathclyde MBA at our Greek centre have been awarded funding as part of the George Avlonitis Memorial Scholarship. George, who was a lecturer at SBS after receiving his PhD from Strathclyde, died in December last year.

Now, nearly a year on, five students have benefited from Memorial Scholarship funds.

George was an Emeritus Professor of Marketing at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB). He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by Strathclyde’s Hellenic Alumni Branch in 2010. Find out more about George here https://www.aueb.gr/en/faculty_page/avlonitis-george-j 

SBS graduate’s Scotland call up

Footballer and Strathclyde alumnus Paul McGinn gained his first call-up to the Scotland squad for this month's Nations League home matches against Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

The Hibernian defender gained an Honours degree in Finance in 2012 while playing for his first club Queen's Park. Although he did not play in either Scotland match, both ended in 1-0 wins for the national team, continuing a run of eight games undefeated.
