SBS' first Global Classroom (aka virtual exchange projects) was launched in Semester 1 with Drexel University (USA) and thirteen MDP3 Undergraduate students took part. In their international teams, the students explored what it was like to set up a business and do business in various countries, including Zimbabwe, New Zealand and Sweden.
As the grand finale, students produced a marketing video for young business professionals about doing business in their chosen countries.
Student feedback has been overwhelmingly positive with key comments such as:
"I wish I could go back and take part in the Global Classroom all over again! The experience was so different to anything else offered at Strathclyde and I was so pleased with the execution of the material."
"It was a real hands-on experience and working with teams from all different countries and cultures definitely enhanced my learning. I have made strong friendships with people across the globe and really learned to embrace my own character."
"Overall, I would recommend it 10/10! This experience allowed me to be more creative and innovative which I liked as well as allowing me to work with others across the globe."
The next Global Classroom will be held with Drexel again starting in Semester 2. This time up to 90 MDP3 students will have the opportunity to work within international teams to develop an academic presentation and poster for Drexel's Annual Student Research Conference.
Emilee Simmons, senior lecturer in Entrepreneurship at Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship and Faculty Digital Learning Champion at SBS said, “This year's theme is 'Disaster' - fitting for 2020/21 - where students will be encouraged to present interdisciplinary research projects to help tackle global 'disasters', whatever that might mean to the students.”
