Strathclyde Marketing Student wins Marketing Society Student of the Year award

Fourth year Honours student Adam Dickson has won the Marketing Society Star Award for Marketing Student of the Year and Nicola Craig, also an Honours student, was one of the finalists at the Apprentice Day.

The Marketing Society Star Award is an annual award presented to the best Marketing student in Scotland. Drawn from a shortlist from all the Universities in Scotland, participants competed at an Apprentice Day where they developed a live client brief for an iconic single malt scotch whisky - Bowmore.

There were 18 finalists at the Apprentice Day on March 18 where they had to take part in some team tasks and individual interviews to asses their strategic, creative and presentation skills.

Speaking about the day Nicola said, “It was so amazing to hear everyone’s great ideas and it was a fantastic experience to work with students from other universities and learn new things. I was lucky enough to be part of the winning team from the day and now have the privilege to taste some Bowmore whisky myself! Overall, it was a great day, and I am so glad I stepped outside of my comfort zone and got involved!”

As part of his prize for winning, Adam has been offered a placement at Edrington Beam-Suntory UK who sponsor the award. Discussing his achievement he said, “Overall, the Apprentice Day was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. It was fantastic to get exposure to brand development in such an exciting industry. It has certainly reinforced my passion for working in marketing and brand development.”

It has been a successful 12 months for Adam as he was part of a two-person team with Thomas Cooper that won the UK marketing competition The Pitch last year, run by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
