Marketing involvement in Climate Fresk Workshop

Recently qualified ‘Climate Fresk Facilitators’ Dr Hyoje Kim and Mrs Michelle Fisher from the Department of Marketing took part in a multi-disciplinary Climate Fresk workshop with Doctoral students in the Teaching and Learning Building, as part of the Strathclyde Doctoral School COP27 & COP26-Legacy Event on November 11.

Participants at the workshop

Climate Fresk is an innovative, efficient and accessible tool to understand the scientific bases underlying climate change. Their workshops teach the fundamental science behind climate change and empowers people to take action.

The event was hosted by the Centre for Sustainable Development, University of Strathclyde and a keynote speech presented by Professor Keith Bell (Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering). Facilitators came together with the Centre for Sustainable Development staff from many different departments of the university including Chemistry, Architecture, Engineering, and the Business School.

Students were allocated a facilitator or two and provided with sets of cards to assemble in order of ‘cause and effect’ all linked to the statistical data from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports. The session concluded after the fifth pack of cards were arranged and a debrief was provided by Professor Scott Strachan (Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering), including some very concerning predictive analysis on the impact of climate change. Students were then given an opportunity to reflect on their journey and consider suggestions both on a personal and professional basis and present their groups findings to the other delegates.

This was only a small part of the overall Legacy event with many other activities planned in the coming days and weeks.
