Department of Marketing attends AM2023

The Department of Marketing enjoyed some excellent successes at the Academy of Marketing’s Annual Conference 2023 at the University of Birmingham.

Launched by the Chair of the Academy, Professor Anne Marie Doherty, at last year’s conference the inaugural Professor Michael J. Baker Thesis Awards were a highlight of AM2023. Jointly sponsored by the Department of Marketing and the Academy of Marketing, the awards honour the legacy of Professor Baker, who established the Department of Marketing at Strathclyde in 1971. Rewarding excellence in doctoral study the inaugural awards were presented at the AM2023 Gala Dinner by Professor Iain Davies. The winning theses were undertaken at the University of Surrey, University of Melbourne and the University of Manchester.

The Department was delighted to win two major grants; a Pedagogic Research Grant and an AMRC Research Grant. These grants are very competitively sought, so wholehearted congratulations are offered to the winners:

The Department was very well represented throughout the conference. Dr Tonner and Dr Juliette Wilson, with their colleague Dr Benedetta Cappellini from the University of Durham, chaired one of the conference workshops “Eat, Drink and Rise Up! Revolutionary Approaches to Food and Eating”. Two doctoral students, Betul Cal and Hirudini Cooray, presented their work at the Doctoral Colloquium. Professor Iain Davies, Dr Keith Pyper, Dr Andrea Tonner, Dr Juliette Wilson and Dr Matthew Alexander all had papers included in the main conference. Special congratulations to Tugce Ozgen Genc and Ji Zhu, doctoral and Masters students in the Department, who presented their research at the main conference.

Professor Anne Marie Doherty is now editing a Special Issue of the European Journal of Marketing (CABS 3*) based on the best papers from the AM2023 conference.
