SCER Director meets First Minister as Co-chair of Scotland’s Fair Work Convention

First Minister Humza Yousaf met Professor Patricia Findlay, Department of Work, Employment and Organisation and Director of SCER, in her role as co-chair of the Fair Work Convention on January 9 to discuss the central role of fair work in Scotland’s economic strategy, the recommendations of the Fair Work Convention’s inquiries into social care and construction, and how the Scottish Government and the Fair Work Convention will continue to work together to mainstream fair work in government and policymaking.

The Fair Work Convention has been in place since April 2015 and acts as an independent advisory body to Scottish Ministers. Professor Findlay is a founding member and Academic Advisor to the Convention since its inception, and Co-Chair since 2017.

The Convention’s vision is that, by 2025, people in Scotland will have a world-leading working life where fair work drives success, wellbeing and prosperity for individuals, businesses, organisations and society.

The First Minister conformed the Scottish Government’s commitment to driving fair work in Scotland, including promoting the real Living Wage; tackling gender, disability and ethnicity pay gaps and applying Fair Work principles to public spending, and to continued constructive working with the Convention.
