Space Cybersecurity conference success
Strathclyde Business School welcomed delegates to the Space Cybersecurity three-day Executive Course organised by Dr Sharon Lemac-Vincere in partnership with the International Space University (ISU), May 13-15, which was the first to take place in Scotland.
During the course, participants enjoyed a trip to the Lightweight Manufacturing Centre at NMIS and some hands-on learning with a live case study designed around the future UK/ AXIOM mission due to take place in 2025. AAC Clyde Space attended the course to talk about their current and future plans for the company, while the CTO from Luporis attended the course to talk about cyber deception techniques. The team at NMIS also worked with Sharon to make a bespoke CubeSat so that the executives had a keepsake to help them with their future thinking on cyber security and resilience.
The course was then followed by the inaugural "Space: Securing our Entrepreneurial Future" two-day conference on May 16 and 17 which was held at TIC.
The key focus of this conference was the increasing need to prioritise secure by design cyber security and resilience planning from the outset, in a rapidly growing space industry. This is particularly important as there is a global skills gap in both the space and cyber domains. By addressing these challenges and fostering collaboration, the conference aimed to pave the way to work together to create a secure and thriving entrepreneurial space sector.
Nicolas Peter, ISU, and Dr Lemac-Vincere welcomed delegates to the conference. Speakers came from academia and industry, and feedback for both the course and conference has been excellent.
Conference delegates also enjoyed a Civic Reception held at the Glasgow City Chambers on the Thursday evening.
Sharon said, “This week, comprising the executive course and conference with their themes of space and cybersecurity, was a great success. We have had amazing feedback from those who took part, and it was a fantastic opportunity for those on both the course and conference to make useful and rewarding connections in the industry. We're now looking forward to running more executive courses in the very near future."
