Teaching Excellence Award winners
The annual Teaching Excellence Awards, organised and run by Strath Union, took place on May 16, hosted by Charlie Wilson, Vice President Education.
Pratima Sambajee, Department of Work, Employment and Organisation, was named winner in the 'Student centred approach' category.
She said, "I am delighted to receive this award. It is a privilege to be part of the students’ learning journeys and to be recognised for it makes it even more worth it!"
In the 'Best in Business' category, the shortlist was made up of Joanna Butler (WEO), Thomas McAlinden (Marketing), Sabin Subedi (Economics), Juliane Thamm (Accounting and Finance) and Caroline Whitfield (Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation), with the overall winner being revealed as Juliane Thamm.
Juliane said, “I was surprised and delighted to be awarded ‘Best in Business’ in the TEA awards this year. It’s a great feeling to know that my students – who vote in these awards – have taken the trouble to do so. I am very happy to have my teaching efforts recognised on this way. This really means a lot.”
A number of business school staff were also shortlisted in different award categories including:
- Most memorable - Kathryn Thory (Management)
- Excellence in staff collaboration - Hazel Baxter-Reid and Kirsty Strokosch (Work, Employment and Organisation)
- Student centred approach - Craig McLaughlin (Accounting and Finance)
- Excellence in Sustainability - Dimitris Andriosopoulos (Accounting and Finance)
- Outstanding Commitment to Equality and Inclusion - Paul Lassalle (Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation)
- Innovative Practises - Dilshod Makhmadshoev (Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation)
Two SBS academics - Thomas McAlinden and Dimitris Andriosopoulos - made it to the shortlist in the 'Best overall' category; Victoria Hamilton was also in the running – Vicky is Strathclyde Enterprise Fellow at the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation as well as a teaching fellow in Design, Manufacturing and Engineering Management. She won in the ‘Best in Engineering’ category and attributed that to the work she has been involved in on entrepreneurship within the two faculties.
The TEAs are student-led teaching awards to recognise the best of Strathclyde's teaching staff. Being student-led, it is solely students who nominate, shortlist and pick the winners.
