SISC hosts major energy event
The Strathclyde Institute for Sustainable Communities (SISC), in partnership with the British Institute of Energy Economics, will be hosting a major event at Strathclyde Business School on March 5.
“The Local Power Plan: Powering a community energy revolution in Scotland?” will feature Michael Shanks MP, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, who will be discussing the UK Government's flagship Local Power Plan and its impact on local communities and the wider energy system.
The UK Government has committed to its ambitious Local Power Plan which puts ‘local authorities at the heart of restructuring the UK’s energy economy’. Its goal is to develop up to 8GW of cheaper, cleaner, locally owned power, through the provision of grants and finance, as well as wider capacity capability building. Whilst community energy has struggled in recent years due to a variety of barriers, the launch of the LPP alongside other trends like the falling costs of renewable energy, could herald a new dawn for community owned energy.
Mr Shanks will be joined by a panel of experts drawn from academia, industry and the third sector to explore how the LPP could catalyse a new community energy revolution in Scotland.
Registration and refreshments take place from 5.30pm with key speeches from 6pm. There will be a drinks reception from 7.30pm.
The talk will take place in SW105, Stenhouse Wing, Strathclyde Business School, 199 Cathedral Street – to attend, please register by February 27: https://shorturl.at/S35eP
