Two students nominated for Marketing Society STAR Marketing Student of the Year awards

Two students from the Department of Marketing have been nominated for the Marketing Society STAR Marketing Student of the Year award.

Leona Wade, studying marketing and business enterprise, and Jude Dudley, studying marketing and economics, have been put forward for the award by marketing lecturer Thomas McAlinden.

As nominees, Leona and Jude have already taken part in Apprentice Day on March 19 where they competed against students from other institutions across Scotland.  The apprentice day involves multiple tasks where students work in groups to undertake a strategic task, a creative task and a presentation task working on a live brief.

Students are assessed on leadership, teamwork, marketing capability and use of marketing insight.

Leona said, “The Apprentice Day was such a memorable experience. From working on a live Highland Park brief to speaking with industry professionals, the day gave me real insight into the creativity and passion behind marketing. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to take part, it was especially inspiring to meet people so open about their journeys, and it left me even more excited about building my own career in the industry.”

Jude said, “The STAR Marketing Apprentice Day was a fast-paced, energising glimpse into the realities of modern marketing. Tackling a live brief under time pressure and presenting to industry professionals pushed us to combine creativity, strategic thinking and teamwork at speed. Collaborating with talented finalists from other universities made the experience even more inspiring. I’m incredibly proud to have represented Strathclyde Business School and to have taken part in a day that made the industry feel both exciting and within reach.”

The top three performing students from the Apprentice Day will attend the STAR Awards Dinner on June 18 and the overall winner will receive a three-month internship over the summer with Edrington.
