Strathclyde appointed to Zero Waste Scotland Systems and Behaviour Framework
The University of Strathclyde, led by Professor Iain Black (SBS) as PI and Sarah Buchanan (DMEM) as framework manager, has been successfully appointed to the Zero Waste Scotland Systems and Behaviour Framework (Lot 2 – Behaviour Change). This consortium bid includes the University of Glasgow, University of Stirling, University of Essex, CeeD and Taylor McKenzie.

This framework agreement is worth up to £1 million over 24 months (with the option to extend for a further two 12-month periods), with individual projects commissioned through call-off contracts, giving the University the opportunity to lead a range of high-impact research and consultancy activities. We are excellently placed to win specific projects having achieved the highest bid quality score and as the only Scottish-based bid (of the five organisations chosen) are uniquely placed to help ZWS respond to their new community wealth building duties.
The appointment recognises our expertise in behavioural science, stakeholder engagement, research design, intervention development, evaluation and systems-informed behaviour change, supporting projects across government, industry and the public sector. The framework is designed to deliver practical solutions that accelerate Scotland's circular economy ambitions and to encourage collaboration both within the University and with other framework partners where appropriate.
This is an excellent opportunity to further strengthen the University's reputation in systems thinking, behaviour change and knowledge exchange, while creating new opportunities for interdisciplinary research, consultancy and impact.
