How can I set up Office 365 email on my Windows laptop?

Microsoft has instructions for configuring Outlook to access your email. If you don't have Outlook already installed, it is available for download as part of the Office suite from Office 365.

Other Office365 Applications

When logged into Microsoft Office 365 you also have access to a suite of other Microsoft Office applications including online versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, OneNote, Teams, Sway, Stream and Forms: some of which can be downloaded onto a variety of devices and can be used during the time you are a registered student.

Office 365 makes a full version of Microsoft Office available to you, which you can install on up to 5 of your personal devices. To ensure continuous access to the software, you must access your Office 365 mailbox at least once a month.

When you are no longer a registered student, the Office suite will enter a state of reduced functionality until you purchase a license.

Please remember, the link to download the Office applications locally is only activated after full student registration is complete.

How do I install Microsoft Office?

You can install Microsoft Office on your Windows laptop, Mac or mobile device. For Android or iOS devices, download the official "Microsoft Office" application from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

To install a Microsoft Office 365 on your Windows or Mac laptop, go to www.office.com and click the "Install apps" button at the top right.

Microsoft OneDrive

Microsoft OneDrive is the cloud based file storage available to students through Microsoft Office 365. This allows users to:

  • Upload files up to 2GB in size
  • Create new or edit existing documents using Microsoft’s Online Office applications
  • Collaborate and share files with other University of Strathclyde Office 365 users and even work on them at the same time

Accessing Microsoft OneDrive On Your Laptop

Microsoft OneDrive provides online storage intended for University of Strathclyde academic documents and it must be used in compliance with the University’s policies and procedures.
