Network & WiFi

Wifi Network

The wi-fi network provided by the University is called eduroam and is available throughout the campus. Once you have set it up here, you can use your Strathclyde login credentials in thousands of locations across over 100 countries worldwide.

Eduroam is one of the only systems to use a different username. So to connect:

  • Network Name (SSID): Eduroam
  • Username: [Your DS username]@strath.ac.uk (e.g. abc12346@strath.ac.uk)
  • Password: DS password

Connecting a laptop or mobile device to eduroam

For more detailed instructions on how to connect your phone, tablet or laptop to Eduroam, visit the Central IT Services WiFi page.

... and always remember to add @strath.ac.uk after your DS username or you will not be able to connect to eduroam.

Issues with connecting some Android and Samsung devices to eduroam

Certain Android phones are not connecting to Eduroam cleanly, so here are some additional steps to try if you face an issue with an Android or Samsung phone

1. Uninstall the Cat eduroam tool from your device (Uninstalling the Cat eduroam will delete the saved eduroam profile/certificate)

2.Download the geteduroam app from Google Play store

3.Open the geteduroam app

4.Select the University of Strathclyde institution

5.Enter your [DS username]@strath.ac.uk and password and click connect

Further steps for Samsung devices only:

6.Eduroam will attempt to connect but will fail and say incorrect password

7.Forget eduroam from the network settings

8.Tap on the eduroam settings

9.Enter:

  • PEAP
  • [DS username]@strath.ac.uk
  • DS password
  • skip anonymous identity
  • select eduroam certificate from the list
  • select MSCHAVP2
  • Enter eduroam.strath.ac.uk to activate the Connect option.
