Reading List (Leganto)

In summer 2019, the reading list service offered by the library underwent a major upgrade – replacing its existing service with Leganto.

Key features include:

  • Reading lists can contain a variety of resource types: books, electronic books, reports, journal articles, audio-visual materials, images, websites, blogs, newspaper articles and more
  • Lists can be structured in the same way as module handbooks, for example weekly reading or reading by topic
  • Links to digitised materials (book chapters, journal articles etc) can be added to your reading list
  • Items on reading lists can be tagged as essential, recommended or further reading
  • Reading lists can be updated while modules are in progress - a great feature for fast moving areas
  • Reading lists are integrated with the VLE, allowing direct links to the entire reading, or links to individual resources embedded within your VLE page
  • Teaching staff can add notes to direct students to specific parts of a learning resource, e.g. read chapter 3
  • Students can mark items as read and make suggestions of other relevant materials to be added to a reading list
  • Reading lists can be exported to EndNote to facilitate the production of a reference list / bibliography
  • Library staff will manage the service on behalf of staff and students, including integration with the VLE and the rollover of reading lists each academic year.
  • Library staff will provide support and advice to academic staff.

As such, it is recommended that Leganto reading lists are created for all online classes. The following link directs you to the Library guidance on how to create and manage your reading list, however Library staff and Learning Technology Advisers can also support staff with their lists:

For items which we are unable to obtain in an electronic format, the Library also provides a digitisation service, in which the resultant text can be integrated with your reading list. To make a digitisation request, follow the guidance at the following link:

Copyright is also relevant when managing your reading. The following links provide further information with regards to copyright:
