ZOOM Messaging / Chat in the Zoom App

Messaging (or chatting) in the Zoom app is similar to WhatsApp and other messaging applications you will have used. Zoom supply general guidelines for replying and managing messages in chat.

Messaging Individuals

  • Select ‘Chat’ at the top of the home screen and your chat history will appear.
  • To find the member of staff in Zoom you want to chat to, search for their name in the "Jump To" field at the top left of the window.
  • Select their name from the list to open a new chat window.
  • Enter your chat message in the text field, then press 'Enter' to send it. This notifies the user that you’ve started a chat session with them.

Creating Groups/Channels

If you use WhatsApp to chat with groups of friends, then you are already familiar with the concept of Zoom chat Channels.

Channels allow you to create private messaging groups, send group chats, files, screen captures, images and start instant meetings with your chosen teams.

For information on how to setup your own teams/channels with your own groups of staff, check out the "Creating a channel" section in ZOOM’s instructions.
