Iberdrola MBA gets underway with Strathclyde Business School

The relationship between one of Europe's largest energy companies and Strathclyde has been strengthened as candidates from around the world gathered in Glasgow to mark the official start of a new collaboration between Iberdrola and Strathclyde Business School.

The two organisations have joined forces to create the MBA in the Global Energy Industry which has been developed to develop senior leaders within Iberdrola. A total of 27 students with managerial potential from Spain, the UK, the US, Mexico and Brazil have enrolled for the course which is now underway.

Delegates from different parts of Iberdrola were invited to take part in the three-year part-time programme. Course subject matter ranges from leadership, international business, project management and strategy. Teaching sessions will typically be eight weeks apart allowing for approximately four weeks for pre-delivery assignments, plus a final project. The programme will be delivered in partnership between Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid, Strathclyde Business School and Iberdrola.

Professor Susan Hart, Executive Dean of Strathclyde Business School, said, "The partnership with Iberdrola is a major development which will help to deliver the next generation of leaders within the world energy sector.

"By providing a tailor made MBA we are delivering a programme which exactly meets the needs of our client, a process which is becoming highly valued across the business community.

"Our organisations share a set of pioneering values and by working together we will release potential and help to create future generations of global leaders."

Iberdrola's participation in the Global Energy MBA reflects the company's commitment to training. In 2012, the Group provided over one million hours of training to its staff, with 82% of the company's 31,000 employees worldwide taking part.

The Chairman of Iberdrola, Ignacio Galán, said, "Energy is a global business and we must be ready to meet the global challenges that our industry faces.

"In order to succeed, we have to invest in the education and skills development of our people.

"Our long standing relationship with the University of Strathclyde helps us to do this and we look forward to seeing the benefits of this new and innovative international partnership."

The Scottish welcome event for the MBA in the Global Energy Industry took place on June 26 on campus.
