Royal visit for TIC and City Observatory

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh formally opened Strathclyde's flagship Technology & Innovation Centre on July 3.

The landmark £89-million Centre is transforming the way academics collaborate with business, industry and the public sector, working together to improve Scotland's and the UK's standing in the global economy.

Strathclyde welcomed Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh as they formally opened the Centre where they met a number of researchers, engineers and project managers who work in the Technology & Innovation Centre.

The Institute for Future Cities' team were delighted to welcome Her Majesty the Queen to the City Observatory space as part of her formal visit to the TIC building.

The Observatory workspace, based within the state-of-the-art Technology and Innovation Centre, provides a physical hub for collaboration and innovation, utilising our multi-disciplinary and multi-sector partnerships.

The City Observatory is an integral part of Glasgow's £24 million 'Future City Demonstrator' project, leading the UK in developing innovative solutions for cities of the future.

Offering a range of tools and access to open data sets, the Observatory offers a unique opportunity to converge, manipulate, analyse and visualise data to aid decision-making, predictive modelling and more detailed understanding of urban problems.
