SBS becomes first UK school to be approved for IMA endorsement

Strathclyde Business School's BA in Accounting and the BA Accounting & Finance have been approved for endorsement under the IMA’s Higher Education Endorsement Program. SBS is the second European Business School to achieve this and the first in the UK.

The Higher Education Endorsement Program recognises undergraduate and graduate accounting programs that meet the educational standards that enable students to pursue the CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) credential. In order to seek endorsement by IMA, higher education programmes must substantially cover the content of the CMA exam in their curriculum and have adequate faculty resources. In addition, they must be accredited by a recognised accreditation organisation and have a faculty member designated as an IMA Campus Advocate.

Dr Julia Smith, reader in accounting and finance at the SBS, said, “I am delighted that the University of Strathclyde is leading the way as the first institution in the United Kingdom to receive recognition of the quality of our programmes, and subsequent approval under IMA’s Higher Education Endorsement Programme.”

Gyulnash Wild, IMA Europe business development manager, is convinced that both organisations will benefit from the new endorsement, saying, “This endorsement helps the reputation of IMA Europe and the SBS and enables both parties to build a long lasting partnership.”

Professor Krishna Paudyal, head of the Accounting and Finance Department at SBS, is certain that the international recognition afforded by IMA endorsement will serve to enhance the value of their graduates. “It is a great pleasure to have our management accounting education be endorsed by IMA. This certification reconfirms the qualities of our academic provisions and students and should be instrumental in enhancing the marketability of our graduates in international job markets.”
