Strathclyde is 'Business School of the Year' 2016

Strathclyde Business School was named 'Business School of the Year' at the Times Higher Education Awards 2016 on November 24 in London for its outstanding overall performance and its innovative and entrepreneurial outlook.

These prestigious annual awards are viewed as the 'Oscars' of the higher education world in the UK. A total of 19 different awards are made, recognising the talent of individuals and teams across all aspects of university life.

The Business School of the Year award was for the business school which demonstrated 'the most outstanding overall performance during the 2014-15 academic year'. Evidence had to be shown of performance against indicators such as innovation, teaching, research, student experience, alumni relations and development. Judges looked at how each business school had built partnerships with the business community and the benefits this had brought to both sides.

Professor David Hillier, Associate Principal & Executive Dean, Strathclyde Business School, said, "We are delighted to be named 'Business School of the Year'. The judges were looking for a business school which had built strong links with the business community and wanted to see evidence of bold and creative strategies which have helped the business school flourish.

"Strathclyde has built up strong and enduring links with business over the years. Our recent Small Business Charter Gold Award recognises our world-leading support for scaling Scottish firms through innovation and leadership. Strathclyde is proud of its 'useful learning' approach and this award recognises the work we put in to ensure our teaching and research is just that. We have a reputation as an innovative business school and we continue to work collaboratively with business to ensure we continue to be.

"Industry engagement is built in to all our programmes. Recently we have introduced new Masters programmes to reflect the changing business world, and our executive education programmes are created in partnership with an individual company to ensure our programmes perfectly suit the needs of its business. In 2015 we launched the Growth Advantage Programme, unique to Scotland, which was designed to deliver practical learning for the leaders of ambitious businesses looking to scale up - with great success for the companies involved.

"This award is testimony to the hard work and dedication of all our Business School staff who ensure we continue to be a pioneering institution of global standing within a leading international technological university."

This latest award follows on from previous Times Higher Education Awards, namely UK Entrepreneurial University of the Year 2013/14 and UK University of the Year 2012/13.

The black-tie awards ceremony took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel, and was attended by more than 12,000 guests, including host and actor, Richard E. Grant. For more information on the awards click here.
