Following a career in the finance sector, Olatunji Alaba did the Strathclyde MSc in Business Analysis and Consulting – here, he provides insight into his experience.

I chose to pursue an MSc in Business Analysis and Consulting (MSc BAC) due to my extensive banking experience as a Relationship Manager for business clients in Nigeria. Over the years, I have provided valuable financial advice to support and enhance my clients' business enterprises. Through this role, I realised the similarities between my responsibilities and those of a consultant, which sparked my interest in exploring the consulting field further.

With the goal of transitioning into a consulting role, I conducted thorough research to find a course that would align with my career aspirations. The diversity of my classmates, hailing from different corners of the world and representing various professional and educational backgrounds, has added an enriching dimension to the learning environment. It has been fascinating to interact and collaborate with individuals who are pilots, IT experts, and professionals from the medical field, among others. This diverse composition has fostered a lovely and highly interactive atmosphere, allowing for the exchange of diverse experiences and perspectives.

The course content has been nothing short of robust and comprehensive, providing us with a well-rounded education in our chosen field. Among the courses, “Becoming an Effective Business Analyst” holds a special place in my heart. In this course, we were equipped with the skills to diagnose business problems like expert doctors, offering valuable solutions. Professors Jeremy Lauer and Matthew Revie, who led this course, taught with unwavering passion and expertise, making them my favourite instructors throughout the programme.

Overall, my time in the classes has been a source of inspiration and growth, fuelling my passion for business analysis and enriching my understanding of global perspectives. The exceptional learning environment, coupled with the dedication and expertise of the tutors, has contributed significantly to my personal and professional development.

The MSc offers opportunities for students to engage with industry leaders in consulting and data analytics. Meetings with executives from organisations like Deloitte and Capgemini provide valuable insights into real-world practices and potential career opportunities. The programme's diverse and supportive student community adds to the enriching academic experience, making it a rewarding journey for aspiring professionals in these fields.
