Finance and Management: positioning for success
By Palak Jain - Posted on 24 August 2023Palak Jain did an MSc in Finance and Management and says the programme has given her the knowledge and skills to navigate a complex business landscape.
I chose the MSc in Finance and Management as it offered an ideal blend of business and finance knowledge, enhancing my technical proficiencies. The programme's distinctive feature of concluding with management and finance projects, instead of the usual finance-focused dissertation, particularly caught my attention, offering a hands-on and comprehensive learning experience.
My journey through the classes has been remarkable. The finance courses were impeccably structured, with insightful lectures and supplementary workshops that provided a comprehensive understanding. On the other hand, the management classes were interactive and project-focused, presenting real-life scenarios for us to tackle. This approach enhanced my problem-solving skills and allowed me to practically apply what I've learned. The combination of these two approaches has really enriched my learning experience.
My experience overall with the general environment and support at Strathclyde Business School (SBS) has been outstanding. From the outset, I was awarded an SBS Masters Scholarship based on merit, which demonstrated the institution's commitment to nurturing talented individuals. Additionally, the SBS Career Services Team has helped refine my CV, transforming it into a polished and impressive document. The career fairs in particular have been invaluable. They offered the chance to engage with potential employers and gain in-depth knowledge about various companies, aiding me in making informed decisions regarding job applications. Beyond the academic sphere, the university places a strong emphasis on student well-being, both mental and physical. This holistic approach creates an environment conducive to learning and personal growth.
Being a student at Strathclyde in Glasgow is an incredible experience. The university offers a vibrant and diverse community that fosters both academic growth and personal development. The city of Glasgow itself is dynamic and culturally rich, providing numerous opportunities for exploration, entertainment, and networking.
My goal career-wise it to effectively manage and expand my family's event management business which requires a solid foundation in both finance and management. The programme's comprehensive curriculum has equipped me with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate the complex business landscape. The blend of financial expertise and management strategies I've gained will enable me to make informed decisions, streamline operations, and drive growth in the coming years.
This course has not only enhanced my ability to contribute to the family business but also positioned me for success in various management roles within the broader industry.
