Business internship leads to ongoing role on campus

By Jessica Broadbent - Posted on 18 September 2024

Jessica Broadbent took on the role as campus brand manager for Enterprise Mobility along with her studies. Here, she talks about what it involves as she celebrates coming top in Scotland in the role.

I got involved with Enterprise Mobility due to a summer internship experience with Enterprise Mobility at their Aberdeen North branch as all interns that are returning to University are given the opportunity to apply and take on the diverse role of Campus Brand Manager in the Talent Acquisition sector of the business.

I did the internship as part of my MDP 3 pathway (internship pathway) at SBS which counted towards my third year credits so doing this is a great opportunity for younger years to get involved in as the company accepts all year groups.

I have been a Campus Brand Manager (CBM) since last September and I am continuing with the role as I enter my final year as a Marketing and Business Enterprise student.

The role of Campus Brand Manger involved getting creative in ways to promote Enterprise Mobility and the careers they have available to students and graduates. I got to meet many applicants at careers fairs and would follow up with them to assist them in their interviews. The role is very diverse and provided me with a range of opportunities to engage with individuals around my campus and Glasgow. Throughout the year I got involved in webinars, careers fairs, business events, social media promotion, careers talks and more.

The main benefits of doing this role is you get to try out so many new experiences such as running careers fair stalls, giving presentations, being a panellist on live webinars, running your own events to promote the careers at Enterprise and getting the opportunity to work on your social media promotion skills. I would also say that my confidence has greatly improved through taking on this role and that the role is so flexible that you get to come up with your own ideas and see them succeed.

I think that my journey at Enterprise within the CBM role has introduced me to so many new experiences, I have got to interact and network with a range of students, academics and business professionals throughout the year. The role has really helped with my career development as I have learnt transferrable skills, improved my confidence and gained hands-on experience in several business areas. I am super excited to see what else I can achieve in this role and what my future career holds.

I was delighted to attend the Campus Brand Manager of the Year final in August which was a full day event at Enterprise Mobility European Head Office in Egham, London. The day started off with a business overview from the Talent Acquisition Leaders and included talks on diversity, new strategies and sustainability. It was great to see that this year’s CBMs had increased the numbers on every metric from last year. In particular this year we hosted 18 female-focussed events compared to just two in the previous year. The latter half of the morning was where I and the five other finalists each gave a 10 minute presentation on what we had done during our time as a CBM, what was successful or not as successful, and why we should win the award of CBM of the Year. We were also each asked questions by the judges at the end of our presentations. After a buffet lunch and a Campus tour of the headquarters, we filmed some content for their social media, in which we were all asked questions about our time in the role. This was followed by a one hour in-depth round table discussion about how we could improve the programme for next year and learn more about how we could implement different ideas from other universities. This was a great opportunity to share my thoughts on the programme and how I can continue to make an impact next year.

The final part of the day was when they announced first and second place winners and I was delighted to come second overall – and first in Scotland.

The final was so much fun, I enjoyed meeting the other finalists and seeing the head office for the first time. I liked hearing everyone’s presentations and what they had been up to. I delivered a great presentation on the day which really impressed the judges - second place was a huge achievement for me. There were 92 campus brand managers across the UK this year so to finish first in Scotland and second in the UK is amazing.

If anyone is looking to apply for any of the careers on the Enterprise Mobility website, they can get in touch with me via my LinkedIn page and I’ll be happy to answer any questions and help with their applications – and if they put me down as an employee referral I can fast track their applications.

I can’t wait to see what this new year brings!
