Taking a successful leap with Strathclyde

By Amey Kadam - Posted on 2 July 2025

Amey Kadam, an MSc International Management student, initially set up his own business but – wanting an understanding of how global businesses operate – opted to do a Master’s programme at Strathclyde. Here, he shares his work journey and his thoughts on taking risks.

Before joining Strathclyde Business School, I worked with leading real estate developers in Mumbai, India. My role involved real estate strategy and planning, greenfield and brownfield acquisitions, project management, deal structuring, fundraising, and overseeing the operations of multi-million square feet portfolios across the city. This experience sharpened my understanding of India’s urban development landscape and strengthened my passion for creating sustainable and affordable communities.

Driven by this vision, I took the entrepreneurial leap and founded Aramy Realty Private Limited, a real estate company with a mission to provide affordable and sustainable living spaces in rapidly growing tier-1 cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Thane. One of my proudest achievements was collaborating with the Government of India to support the Honourable Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi’s “Housing for All” initiative through the PMAY scheme. We successfully sourced 65 acres around 2.85 million sq. ft. across eight land parcels in Maharashtra, reinforcing my belief in the transformative power of real estate as a driver for social good.

However, I found myself increasingly curious about how businesses scale and operate internationally. How do they plan and launch ventures across borders? How do they adapt to different markets while retaining a global vision? To answer these questions and gain the practical tools to pursue international growth, I decided to take a career break and pursue a master’s degree that would prepare me for the complexities of global business.

At Strathclyde, I discovered a community that fosters innovation, diversity, and academic excellence.

Overall, the course itself is comprehensive and offers a well-rounded perspective on how international business operates from gaining insights into navigating different markets and adapting to the fast-changing global environment. For someone like me, who was already immersed in India’s dynamic real estate landscape, this was the perfect foundation to expand my understanding global markets and connect it to international opportunities.

One of the most impactful modules I’ve taken so far is the Global Business Environment (GBE) module taught by Dr Dilshod Makhmadshoev. His engaging teaching style rich in theory, real-world case scenarios, and interactive discussions has sparked my deep interest in cross-border mergers and acquisitions processes, market analysis, and market entry strategies. Each lecture left me more confident and curious about how to navigate global business challenges with creativity and strategic thinking.

Beyond the classroom, I’ve been fortunate to take on leadership roles that have enriched my learning. As the Programme Representative for my cohort, I’ve had the chance to amplify the student voice and advocate for changes that benefit everyone. I was honored to be nominated for the Representative of the Year in the Education category at the Star Awards 2025, and to serve as a jury panelist for the Teaching Excellence Awards. These experiences have reinforced my appreciation for collaborative leadership and the power of community.

Outside academics, I am currently working at Virgin Media as an Advisor in Sales and Business Strategy. This role has provided me with practical insights into understanding customer needs, analysing market trends, and contributing to strategic initiatives. Looking ahead, I am eager to secure an opportunity to join the Virgin Media head office in Reading, UK, and leverage both my academic learnings and practical experience to contribute to the company’s growth and innovation.

If you’re interested in understanding how business works globally and want to develop practical skills for managing across markets, this course is a great fit. It encourages entrepreneurial thinking and critical analysis, and it’s well-structured for those who want to start something of their own or work internationally. If you ever need any advice or want to chat about the programme, I’m always open to sharing my experience.

My final advice is always just take the risk - because there is no story without it.
